Lexington, N.C., October 23, 2009 – An exciting announcement will be made during Lexington’s Annual Barbecue Festival opening ceremonies on Saturday, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, the Emmy-award winning hit TV show on ABC Television, is coming to the Triad to present one deserving family with an extreme home makeover. Lexington builder, Hedrick Creative Building, with a goal to construct a new home in one week, will oversee and implement the project that will make a miracle happen for a Triad family.

On Wednesday, November 11, a Triad family will answer a knock on the door and find Extreme Makeover: Home Edition Team Leader Ty Pennington and his design team waiting to transform their home and their lives. Five families in the Triad have been nominated by their friends and families to receive the home makeover in recognition of their general day to day heroism.

“It’s such a great honor to be a part of something that makes such a difference in the life of a Triad family,” said Jason Hedrick, owner of Hedrick Creative Building. “The community is coming together to make this possible, it’s such a feel good project to give back and make a dream come true, that’s why I’ve chosen Let’s Build a Dream as the theme for this build.”

My Birthday Wish

My 37th birthday is right around the corner. Since I am adopted, my birthday is an annual reminder of just how blessed I am to have a caring birthmother who gave me the gift of life and gave my parents the gift of a child, and two loving adoptive parents who gave me the gift of a loving home and a permanent family. I also thank God who, I am certain, orchestrated the whole thing.

This year I'm celebrating my birthday by asking friends and family to consider making a small financial contribution to Caroline's Promise. CP is an organization that works to"Reclaim Hope for Orphans" by:

-providing grants for adoptive families
-serving orphans, widows and at risk children on short-term mission trips, and
-educating the community about adoption and the orphan crisis

I have served on two Caroline's Promise mission teams to Guatemala and I also serve on the CP board of directors. I have seen, first-hand, the lives that are being changed because of the work being done by Caroline's Promise.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. launched a brash price war against Inc. on Thursday, saying it would sell 10 hotly anticipated new books for just $10 apiece through its online site,

That was just the beginning.

Hours later, Amazon matched the $10 price, squaring off in a battle for low-price and e-commerce leadership heading into the crucial holiday shopping season. Wal-Mart soon fired back with a promise to drop its prices to $9 by Friday morning -- and made good on that vow by early evening Thursday.

Cool Wedding Bands

Found this online today and it's too cool not to share. I am seriously thinking about getting these to replace our current wedding bands! Here is the info and a link:

Custom fingerprint wedding bands in sterling silver (set of two)

"This is for a set of two totally unique custom fingerprint wedding bands in sterling silver. One 3.5mm and one 6mm. Can be done in any precious metal, convo for an estimate.

Searching for a truly unique wedding band? Tired of finding the same plain bands or designs that just come from a catalogue? This is just what you were looking for. It is many things: unique, sentimental, custom, heirloom quality crafted, and you are completely involved in the making process.

I send you my Impression Kit in the mail. Once you receive it, imprint the entire length of your finger and/or your fiancés finger separately. Then you mail that back to me. Once I receive it here in my studio in beautiful coastal Maine, I make a wax form from the impression material. Then utilizing the ancient lost wax casting process, I turn that impression into a metal ring utilizing gold or silver. Maybe some day this ring gets passed down to your children- a family heirloom for sure.

How romantic! Your lover touching you, holding your finger, always with you. I would love to talk with you about this exciting process! Only available from Brent Williams Designs with such fine craftsmanship."

"The Katinas" and Samoan Tsunami Relief

Katinas Blog Update:

Verne and I talked with James Katina (one of the brothers from the
group Katinas) The Katinas still have family that still live in American
Samoa. The island was hit by an 8.0 magnitude earthquake Tuesday
that then triggered a ‘tsunami’ that brought in two waves of water that
devastated whole villages. The death toll is over 100 people and is
expected to climb.

American Samoa (home to 65,000 people) is located about
halfway between New Zealand and Hawaii in the Pacific.
